Current and former Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa holders who lost time in Australia due to COVID-19 international travel restrictions will soon be able to apply for a replacement visa.

The Australian Government has announced the replacement visa for graduates who have been disadvantaged due to the pandemic and related travel restrictions.

Applications for the replacement visa will be open from mid-2022. To be eligible, applicants must have been outside of Australia at any time between 1 February 2020 and 1 December 2021 while they held a Temporary Graduate visa

Normally, applicants can only be granted one Temporary Graduate visa, and a further visa is usually only available on the basis of regional work and study.

However, this replacement visa provides an opportunity for graduates who have had their plans disrupted due to the pandemic and related travel restrictions, to enjoy the full benefits of a Temporary Graduate visa in Australia.

As successful applicants will be granted the full validity of their original visa, the full visa application charge will apply.

Whilst holding this visa, applicants can live, study and work in Australia for the duration of the visa period.

Applicants can include members of the family unit in their application when they apply. This includes family members that weren't included in their original Temporary Graduate visa.

It is likely that applicants will need to supply some supporting documents to apply for this visa stream. We’ll provide more details on the requirements when the information becomes available. For further details, please visit the Australian Department of Home Affairs website.
