My name is Muhammad, and I'm studying engineering in Perth. It's a great destination to study and live.

Choosing Perth

Perth has schools and colleges in the world's top lists. Edith Cowan University (ECU) has secured a spot in the top 50s, and that’s where I study. Perth is the capital city of Western Australia (WA), with a thriving economy and more job opportunities than people!

In fact, I haven't encountered a more polite and civilised society where one can work, study, build meaningful friendships and enjoy a great lifestyle. To live a beautiful life, you need safety, opportunity and sociality, and Perth has all three, plus many more.

What to do in and around Perth

There are so many naturally beautiful places like the Swan Valley, Serpentine Falls, and the Pink Lake. There are old towns steeped in history, like York and Northam, and iconic holiday destinations such as Busselton and Margaret River, and some of the best beaches in the world!

The cherry on top is Fremantle, with its famous markets, and our small, beautiful Perth city with enough skyscrapers to call it a modern city but not too many so you can still find a parking bay!

If you’re lucky enough to be in Perth in the Spring, there are more beautiful wildflowers than you can imagine; seeing their sights and taking in their smells would make you want to believe in God. In September, you can enjoy the orchid and cherry blossom festivals.

Becoming an International Student Ambassador

I was a StudyPerth International Student Ambassador in 2023. What inspired me to apply for the program was working as an international student support officer with MATEinOz for a year from 2017 to 2018.

As an international student, I have some fantastic stories to tell. I'd like to share with newly arrived students that they're going to be okay, and, more importantly, they are going to be accepted for who they are, without needing to change anything.
