Hello! I'm Alison Abuan. I was born in the Philippines and raised in Bahrain, and I'm now a second-year student taking an Australian Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics and Mechatronics) in Malaysia!
I decided to study at an Australian university in Malaysia, following in my brother's footsteps. We both chose to study at Swinburne University Sarawak because our parents believed in quality education and an environment that encourages learning and ambition.
I've made friends with people from different cultural backgrounds and grown significantly – both academically and as a person. I was even appointed Swinburne Sarawak Student Council Secretary, running different clubs and societies. My time on Council also allowed me to represent Swinburne externally and has given me the confidence to pursue my chosen career.
One of the benefits of studying with an Australian university is the quality of education. My chosen university, Swinburne, is ranked among the best in the world.
Gaining my degree in Engineering from Swinburne’s Sarawak campus allows me to gain accreditation in Malaysia and Australia, from both the Board of Engineers Malaysia and Engineers Australia, respectively. Swinburne Sarawak also collaborates with industry partners across different faculties and even has a dedicated team to help students with employability and career preparation.
Another benefit is that studying at Swinburne’s Sarawak Campus means that the cost of living is relatively affordable.
Overall, studying at Swinburne in Sarawak has been an incredible journey!
