Newcastle and Hunter Valley 

Newcastle is situated on the coast around 160 kilometres north of Sydney. It has many stunning beaches, including Merewether Beach, which is a popular spot for surfing, as well as a vibrant live music scene with several music festivals throughout the year.  

The region’s strengths lie in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defence, tourism and mining. A dynamic start-up sector has also developed in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.

There region is surrounded by beautiful forests and national parks, as well as the famous wine region, the Hunter Valley.

Newcastle has a variety of excellent education options, including the University of Newcastle and several TAFE NSW campuses. These institutions offer a wide range of courses and have excellent teaching facilities.  

The city is known for its friendly and welcoming community so, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get involved in community events and activities.
